Nihal’s Tennis Elbow Fracture Treatment by Dr. Raman Kant Aggarwal | Medanta Medicity

Nihal Suffered Tennis Elbow Fracture

Nihal, 30 years old, a resident of Gorakhpur, met with a fateful accident on the noon of August 30, 2021, while he was on his motorcycle. He got hit by a car that left him with an injury in his left elbow. He was taken to the nearby hospital where doctors diagnosed him with an elbow fracture after getting the necessary investigations done.

He was admitted to the nearby hospital and was advised to get his elbow cast done for two months. He agreed to the treatment and came home with a cast elbow. After keeping his elbow in the cast for 2 months, he revisited the hospital for a follow-up and cast removal. His elbow was still immobilized and he had immense pain as well. The doctors there advised him to do a few exercises which neither he was able to perform nor they did do any good to him.

He couldn’t do the routine activities like having his meals, buttoning his shirt, taking up the mobile phone to his ear, or even bending his left hand. The inability to perform these routine activities coupled with excruciating pain left him feeling hopeless about regaining the mobility in his hand ever. It was then when his relative advised him to get checked at Medanta Medicity Hospital once to have a shot at fixing his elbow.

Nihal Visited Dr. Raman Kant Aggarwal at Medanta Medicity

On a suggestion by his relative and tired of having the bent, immobilized elbow for seven months, he came to Medanta Medicity Hospital with the hope to receive the best treatment. He consulted Dr. Raman Kant Aggarwal, Director, Institute of Musculoskeletal Disorders and Orthopaedics.

Dr. Aggarwal was surprised to find that he was in the same position as seven months before because despite being in a cast for 2 months and 5 months later as well, his elbow was still fractured and dislocated. Considering the injury had already been 7 months old, it was a huge challenge to fix the fracture, relocate the dislocated part, construct the torn ligament, and give his elbow the mobility it previously had.

Elbow Dislocation & Ligament Reconstruction Surgery Performed on Nihal

On Dr. Raman Kant Aggarwal’s advice, Nihal was planned for Elbow Dislocation & Ligament Reconstruction surgery followed by rehabilitation. His coronoid head was replaced and the elbow ligaments torn during the accident were reconstructed. On successful completion of the surgery, he was put on a post-surgical rehabilitation program for optimal mobility and complete recovery.

It was Nihal’s perseverance and determination that he followed the rehabilitation program despite being in pain. After six weeks, of surgery, and weeks of rehabilitation therapies, Nihal has now regained complete mobility of his left elbow to an extent that he has almost forgotten that it ever existed.

Dr. Aggarwal lauded Nihal for his cooperation and sincerity shown during the treatment process and didn’t break down even once. His zeal to get better and Dr. Aggarwal’s expert treatment and guidance plan made him make a full recovery. Nihal is overjoyed to have made a complete recovery and regained full mobility of his left hand and elbow like they used to be.

Dr. Aggarwal insisted on the emphasis that if a patient understands and cooperates as his doctor advises, having a complete recovery, despite being in a bad state before, becomes easy and achievable.

Terrible Triad of the Elbow

Dr. Aggarwal further elaborated on Nihal’s case being one of the Terrible Triad of the Elbow cases. He instated that such cases are widely reported and poorly managed in our country. Such cases are often neglected and even put on the wrong treatment course, as was done in Nihal’s case. He wasn’t required to be put in the case because of elbow dislocation and surgery was the only solution.

He emphasized that the Terrible Triad of the Elbow cases should be adequately and correctly detected and managed accordingly. Such cases should follow up with a required rehabilitation program starting with light movements right from day one for excellent results.
